Darwin Day!

This blog is dedicated to my documentation of the BIO5 outreach program. That said, at the U of A Darwin Day celebration the BIO5 outreach program wasn't the only show in town, so to speak. So all of what I will present here is the BIO5 outreach program and the and its role in the festivities at the Darwin Day event. If you would like to see my top favorites and more from all around that will go up on a later date at my other ongoing PhotoBlog at Compositional Photons. Thanks and enjoy the Pictures!

This is just a fun event getting young kids interested in science
Oh and braaaaains....

Catalina Foothills High School Field Trip to BIO5: Genetics Labs Tour

Introduction:

The beginning is like most beginnings with an orientation in the lobby and of course a quick overview of the tour. Below is the accent through the atrium to the 3rd level and the first lab.

First Lab: Cancer Research

Below are three images of the students looking at various cancer cells through a microscope

Ending this part with a quick Q & A session

Second Lab: Virus Research

That magnet (orange thing in her hand) is a key piece in photographing the genetic code of the viruses they study.

Below is a tank for Virus samples held in Liquid Nitrogen

Centrifuge and other funny things in the lab... Whats with the weird hanging thing with hair on the top left?

Lab Three: Genome Project

Samples, samples and more samples...

Debriefing:
The tour ends here in a conference room where the students are told about the opportunities they have at the U of A in relation to the BIO5 research center.
